Day in brief:
It was summit day for all of us at Tosh valley. Kundu spoke with trek staff on previous evening and decided to start early in the day around 7:00 AM. Breakfast was scheduled at 6:30 AM. I got up around 5:30 AM and had morning formalities. Meanwhile all of us got up and freshen-up. Breakfast was ready at 7:00 AM which is half an hour late than scheduled. Cook Sanjay Thapa prepared Pan Cake for breakfast. Had breakfast and it took more than half an hour for us. All of us took group photo at 7:45 AM.
Started for Animal Pass Summit Around 8:00 AM. One of the trek crew Ram Singh led from the front. He has already did Animal Pass 4 times this year. This is his 5th attempt. Initial climb was very steeper one. Literally 80 degree climb took us to half way stage. It was amazing experience indeed for me!!! Meanwhile Narayan ji along with Gopal Thakur & Vipul Sharma started from Shamshi Thatch camp-site little late. They quickly joined us half way stage. Kundu, Sujitha and me were hiking together till the Lake. It was very tough climb at Tosh valley with crossing boulders and rocks all the way. Finally reached Lake just below Animal Pass around 12:00 PM. I feel it is around 3 Kms. of hike till the Lake.
Narayan ji told Lake name was Kuta Sarovar. Kuta Sarovar was very huge and extremely Beautiful!!! I believe it is one of greatest creation of God at an altitude of 4500 Mtr. Everyone took half an hour break here and enjoyed the serenity around the Lake. It was mountains everywhere. Took many pics at the Lake.
Trek crew told us this is not final hike and there is another few Kms. of hike pending for Animal Pass Summit. At 12:30 PM, we all started towards Animal Pass Summit. Walk on the banks of Kuta Sarovar took us to steep hike which is full of rocks. Those who reached Kuta Sarovar early where lagging behind this stretch. Me, Kumar, Shashi and Bharani hiked together to Animal Pass at this stretch. Bengali group first to reach Summit along with trek crew at 1:20 PM. Myself and Bharani reached at 2:00 PM. I felt over the moon!!! One of the toughest treks of my life even tougher than Pangarchulla climb. It was 5 Kms. of tough hike at Tosh valley for me. Around 6 hours of journey took us to Animal Pass 🙂
Note: Deo Tibba, Ali Ratni peak, Malana valley along with Malana village of Kullu valley is visible from Animal Pass Summit. We are pretty unlucky couldn’t see any of the peaks due to bad weather at Summit.
Weather got bad at 2:15 PM and trek crew told us to start back to Shamshi Thach. Hail storm followed by snow flakes near Animal Pass gave us real Himalayan experience!
Trek crew Ram Singh took us to different route back. Initially we walked on Glacier at Animal Pass and then took same route return back till Lake. Gopal Thakur accompanied me till Kuta Sarovar. Took Amazing pics while returning and even took selfie with Gopal at Lake.
Deepak, Bharani & Lakshman joined us at Kuta Sarovar while descending. Ram Singh along with few trekkers waiting us at some point to join them. Finally we all together started to descend and it is different route all the way while descending. Weather was cloudy and foggy. We are lucky to have clear trail while descending. Descending took us 3 and half hours of time. I was last to reach around 6:00 PM to base camp Shamshi Thach. Meanwhile Kundu Along with Narayan ji, Shravan, Sujitha, Tarun & Jhankar where in second group and they reached camp-site at 7:00 PM.
All of us had Soup, Noodles, Fried rice and Shavagi for dinner at 7:00 PM. It took us 1 hour for dinner and people are very tired. All of us told Bye Bye for the day around 8:00 PM with trek to Sora Lake is in store for next day.
B G BALIGA TRAVEL DIARY at ANIMAL PASS
B G BALIGA TRAVEL DIARY at ANIMAL Pass (Altitude 4750 Mtr according to View Ranger GPS app) on 21st September 2016 afternoon 2:00 PM.
It was one of toughest hikes of my life. The toughest Himalayan hike of 6 hours which started at morning 8:00 AM from Shamshi Thach camp-site which took us to Animal Pass Summit around 2:00 PM in the afternoon. Probably one of tiresome hikes. Never give up attitude of entire group made this journey successful one!
Once we reach top, weather at valley got bad. It started with hail storm followed by snow fall. Unique day indeed in my life!!! Thanks to my friend Achintya Kundu for guiding, motivating and inspiring me to attempt this summit.
Animal Pass Summit is one of the greatest achievements of my life cos of terrain, steepness, altitude and weather at Summit. Feeling proud that I have achieved it!!!
Shamshi Thach camp-site is Beautiful & Magnificent camp-site which is in open valley with snow-capped mountains. Open camp-site streams and few small Lakes all over the camp-site. It is 3rd camp-site of Animal Pass & Sora Umga La Trek and base camp-site for Animal Pass which is just on left side of it.
Temperature: Around 5 to 8 degree Celsius at night.
