Trekking Experience:

2 Days Trek to Belligundi & Unexplored waterfalls on 12th & 13th September 2015 is my 4th event as a organizer for Bangalore AdvenTurers(BAT) and 6th event as participant since its inception on 8th July 2015. Sharavathi valley is one of the valleys i yet to explore from last 3 years but time has came and i decided to organize a trek to this valley.

Sharavathi valley is beautiful valley with dense forest and plenty of falls. I have decided to explore one such falls named as Belligundi falls. Created event and sent event mail to the group. Got 11 registrations including myself. Booked Tempo Traveller (TT) and as usual started from Shantal Silk house on 11th September night towards Kattinakaru which is our trek start point. It was 10:30 PM, when we started from Bengaluru after picking up Pradeep at Yeshwantpur metro station.

I have already called guide and made necessary arrangements so everything goes according to the plan.

Day 1: 12th September 2015 (Saturday)

Day in brief:

Reached Kattinakaru around 8:00 AM in the morning. On the way, stopped for small break and took group snaps too…

Our accommodation was arranged at Maale mane by guide. It was 2 Kms. of walk and crossing a stream from where we got down from TT on jeep trail took us to Maale mane. According to villagers, it was 6 Kms. of distance from Kattinakaru to Maale mane. We came on TT around 4 Kms. on jeep trail and walked another 2 Kms. to reach Maale mane.

Maale mane – Overnight stay destination for this event :)

I can divide Day 1 into 2 parts:

  1. Trek to top of the Belligundi falls
  2. Trek to Belligundi falls view point

1st Part: Trek to top of the Belligundi falls

Around 10:00 AM, we all started our first trek inside Sharavathi valley. No one in the group had been to this place before so it was first experience for all :) It was one of it’s kind trek with walking inside dense forest and open lands en-route. We will get 2 to 3 open lands while walking inside the forest. Due to monsoon, it was leeches paradise and all of us started donating blood. Blood donation is in full swing!!! All of us tried to escape from leeches. It was real funny experience for all of us while walking inside dense forest to escape from leeches!

Last descent before getting into water is toughest one due to slippery terrain because of heavy rains. Our guide told us it was 5 Kms. of trek to Belligundi falls top but it turned out to be more than that plus slippery descending before getting down to Belligundi falls made our experience Adventuresome!!! For me it was barefoot descent into water. Around 11:45 AM, all of us got down and walked to Belligundi falls by the stream. We all crossed stream too at some point of trek.

When we reached falls around 12:15 PM all of us felt its really worthy trek to reach falls after facing such difficulties. Relaxed for 45 minutes and took many snaps.. All of us enjoyed the view from falls. It’s breathtaking experience for all and feeling top of the world :)

Ascending the slippery route is not felt as much difficult one. Somehow all of us managed to make it and reached Maale mane around 3:45 PM in the afternoon for lunch.

Trek distance: Around 10 to 12 Kms.

2nd Part: Trek to Belligundi falls view point

All of us started around 4:15 PM from Maale mane towards view point. It was much better part of Sharavathi valley than morning one.

Wow!!! Is the only word…

Reached view point around 5:30 PM and spent nearly 45 minutes at view point. As told by guide it was easy trek of 6 Kms. (up and down) to view point from where we can witness Beautiful Belligundi falls, Arabian sea and Surreal Sharavathi valley. It was treat for our eyes with Beautiful view of Belligundi falls, Arabian sea and Surreal Sharavathi valley. We took plenty of snaps and everyone had pleasant feeling of accomplishment which took us to one of the best view points at Sharavathi valley.

Day 2: 13th September 2015 (Sunday)

Day in brief:

Day 2 plans were uncertain since we have planned to trek unexplored falls. Looking at team and difficulty level of trek, we all decided not to attempt unexplored falls. Alternative plan was finalized and decided to trek Goodanagundi falls along with 1 view point. It was raining from Saturday night at valley. It was still raining when we got up around 6:00 AM.

All of us freshen-up and had breakfast. Guide prepared Poori, Khurma & Avalakki for the breakfast.

Since we are trekking to Goodanagundi falls, we all packed our bags and kept belongings inside TT. Left Maale mane around 9:15 AM and started to Goodanagundi falls at 10:00 AM after dropping our luggage’s inside TT.

It was adventurous walk inside dense forest with crossing 2 streams en-route. Forest is full of leches and blood donation is in full swing! Our plan is to cross stream near Goodanagundi falls, reach viewpoint then guide’s house to conclude 2 day trek inside Sharavathi valley. As i said earlier, due to heavy rain in the valley, stream is full and Goodanagundi falls was at its glory. In one words, Breathtaking!!!
