Night Trek is always a relaxing trek with camp fire, fun games, chit chat etc….Planning a night trek as well as finalising mode of transport is always a challenge. Niranjan wanted to start nigh treks for Banagalore AdvenTurers (BAT) so he discussed with me which one is Best option? We had plenty around Bengaluru but we wanted to do night trek to place where none of the Adventure groups attempted before so i gave him option of why not we can attempt Bhimana Kindi on Moon Light day. It is Dasara extended weekend and most of the people in Bengaluru will head towards their native still we are sure of getting registrations for the night trek cos night treks were in demand 🙂 Niranjan finalized itinerary on 19th October and posted on BAT website, emailed to BAT group. Mode of transport prepared was car so we can be on safer side since it is risky to have night ride on our motor bikes. We got around 14 registrations with 3 cars so divided 5 each in 2 cars and 4 in 1 car. Meetup point decided was METRO Cash & Carry (Kodays Entrance, Kanakapura Main Road, After Banashankari Bus Stop).

How to reach the place : Driving down from Bengaluru on Kanakapura road will take approximately 2 to 3 hours depending on the time of travel. Reach Kanakapura (50 Kms) then go straight on the main road it will take to place called Sathanur (a further 21 Kms). From Sathanur, a diversion to the right goes to Kabbala village(another 6 Kms). Near Kabbala durga base take right diversion and move another 3 Kms. to Kanchana Halli which will take you to base of Bhimana Kindi.
About the Place: Bhimana Kindi near Kanchana Halli in Halgur (Malavalli) – Channapattana Road. This Hill has a Natural Rock Arch and is a good trekking place for beginners. Some believe that this arch was formed due to hitting of a huge rock by the Mace of the Bhima (Pandava, Mahabharatha). Geologists say that it is a natural phenomenon.
Day in brief:
Finally day came where we are heading towards maiden night trek experience of BAT, it was 24th October Moon Light night. Niranjan called me around 7:00 PM on Saturday night and informed to come with Shashank who resides nearby my place. So i left to his place around 7:45 PM from my home. Parked my bike at Shashank’s house and gave company to Shashank on his ALTO. Left to Meetup point around 8:15 PM and reached the place by 8:45 PM.
Rest of the people joined us around 9:00 PM. We all started from Meetup point around 9:05 PM towards Bhimana Kindi which was around 80 Kms. from Bengaluru city.
Took 2 to 3 break s before reaching Kabbaladurga. Our destination Bhimana Kindi was little ahead of Kabbala village and located near Kanchana Halli(Nearly 3 Kms. from Kabbala village). With help of GPS, we are able to find base of Bhimana Kindi. Car which i boarded led from the front so we can find the base without any problem. Reached base around 11:30 PM in the night. Had self-intro session at the base and started our hike to Bhimana Kindi around 12:00 AM.
Challenges we faced in this night trek where nobody attempted night trek to Bhimana Kindi before, BAT is first group to do according to my knowledge though lot of day treks were done before to the place. Initially, we lost trails and went liitle further ahead around the place. Later we realised we took wrong route and came back. Found the way which took us to one small temple which can be considered as landmark point to start hike to Bhimana Kindi top.
From this temple, we can find stair case type of steps which will take us to the top. One more thing we have followed is electric pole which will be there beside steps till the top of Bhimana Kindi. We followed that stair case till the top. I led the team to top and Niranjan was with other guys so hike goes smoothly without any issues. It was easy to moderate kind of hike to the top.
All of us reached to top around 3:00 AM after exploratory night trek experience. Nilesh and few adventurers prepared camp fire at top.
All of us relaxed and waited for sunrise. Few of them played some games. I took rest and had small nap till the sunrise. Took many photos at top of Bhimana Kindi before getting back to the base.
Started descending around 7:30 AM after many group pics.
Reached base around 8:30 AM and took many group photos till the base.
Started towards Bengaluru. Had breakfast on the way and departed to our places.
It was maiden night trek for Bangalore AdvenTurers (BAT). Everything went according to our plan and we were first group to successfully organize Night Trek to Bhimana Kindi according to my knowledge. Thanks to Niranjan for organizing exploratory night trek which had little challenges and finally we made it to the top. I would like to thank other adventurers who are all part of maiden night trek of BAT and made it memorable for everyone 🙂 🙂 🙂
