Exploration date during Winter Experience of LEH LADAKH & CHADAR Trek – 2017: 20th January 2017
Peace is what people looks for when they visit Mountains. Shanti Stupa is the place where you will get much needed peace in your Life!
After exploring Ancient Leh Palace solo way, I have no idea about how to spend second half of the day during my 1st day at Leh Ladakh. In addition to this Leh experiences small days in Winters because of Chilled Weather. Leh Market and most of the Hotels closes by 6:00 PM in the evening so i had very short time when i reached Hotel Bimla in the afternoon around 3:15 PM. Namma Bengaluru trek-mates Somesh & Shruthi Somesh were returned to Hotel Bimla along with Suddhasatwa Banerjee from Pune. We were thinking about visiting Shanti Stupa in the evening and finalised it when i reached Hotel Bimla.
Started from Hotel Bimla around 3:30 PM. We were informed by Hotel Staff that Shanti Stupa is just 5 Kms. away from Hotel and even we can try walk also! Due to weather worries in the evening we decided to go on rented vehicle and hired Maruthi Omni to visit Shanti Stupa from Hotel Bimla.
Reached Shanti Stupa around 4:00 PM and one more Travel Bug from Namma Bengaluru Deepa Iyer whom i met first time at Delhi Airport suppose to join us but she was already reached Shanti Stupa and in meditating mode with experiencing Breathtaking views of Himalayan Mountains of Stok Kangri range!
About Shanti Stupa: Shanti Stupa is a Buddhist white-domed stupa (chorten) on a hilltop in Chanspa, Leh district, Ladakh, in the north Indian state of Jammu and Kashmir. It was built in 1991 by Japanese Buddhist Bhikshu, Gyomyo Nakamura and part of the Peace Pagoda mission. The Shanti Stupa holds the relics of the Buddha at its base, enshrined by the 14th Dalai Lama. The stupa has become a tourist attraction not only due to its religious significance but also due to its location which provides panoramic views of the surrounding landscape.
