Exploration date during Winter Experience of LEH LADAKH & CHADAR Trek – 2017: 20th January 2017

It was 20th January 2017 morning, I kept my 1st step on Leh around 7:45 AM after boarding flight (Jet Airways, Seat: 22D) from Delhi at 6:30 AM. Weather was around -17 degree Celsius in the morning when we got out of flight. Huge difference in temperatures inside Flight & Leh was Awesome feeling when i kept my 1st step at Leh Airport 😛

Deepa Iyer whom i met at Delhi Airport helped me to reach Hotel Bimla which is accommodation point during CHADAR Trek as provided by Adventure Nation SPOC person. Went on car which is came to pick-up Deepa Madam. Thanks to Mr. Sonam for dropping me to Hotel Bimla.

Reached Hotel Bimla around 8:30 AM and reported to point of contact Inam. He gave me 4 people room since 3 of the them will join me later who will reach few hours late to Leh. Hotel Bimla in-charge Inam charged room cost Rs 1500/- per day since 4 of us reached 1 day early to Leh and 4 of us divided room charge between us.

Note: During winters at Leh, Room charge per day will be costly in every hotel due to weather conditions.

Had breakfast and decided not to waste my 1st day at Leh Ladakh. Meanwhile 3 of them – Somesh, Shruthi Somesh & Suddhasatwa Banerjee reached Hotel Bimla around 11:00 AM.

As the day progresses, Temperature was around -5 degree Celsius which is common during winters at Leh.

Inquired about nearby places which i can roam in the morning. Hotel Staff told me Leh Palace is nearby and Best place to explore so decided to visit Leh palace in the morning. Informed my roommates about visiting Leh Palace. 3 of them told me to wait since they will go out and come for some work. Waited for them till 11:45 AM and moreover their mobile phones are on switch off mode so decided to go alone for exploration of Ancient Leh Palace which is nearby only!

Founded in 1430 by King Tashi Namgyal of Ladakh, it has a three-story high gold statue of Maitreya Buddha and ancient manuscripts and frescoes.
