About Yuksum: Before going into Day 1 journey, we should know about Yuksum. Silence & Peace – 2 things one can expect at Yuksum. Lovely place to relax for a day or two.

1st day of the trek and we are all eager to kick start the journey inside Kanchendzongha National Park. Had relaxed overnight sleep on previous night post dinner. Operation Manger of HT for Sikkim region Mon Bahadur Subba hosted us really well at HOTEL GOECHALA VALLEY which is owned by Vikram. Had morning breakfast at GUPTA RESTAURANT at Yuksum Bazar after freshen-up.
Before start of the trek, Mon Bahadur Subba collected 2 set of Passport photos & ID proof for forest entry permission at KNP. Richard went to Police Station at Yuksum behalf of us.
We are only 4, Benny decided to start on 2nd day and planned to join us directly at Tsokha along with Rhik. Rhik Sengupta is ground coordinator of HT who will lead our team during the entire trek.
Myself, Richard, Arjit & Soumen started around 10:00 AM from HOTEL GOECHALA VALLEY where we did overnight stay. Took some photos before start of the unforgettable journey.
Started around 11:00 AM from Yuksum post exploration of monastery to 1st camp-site of Dzongri & Goecha La journey Sachen. Skipped Kathog Lake exploration since we are already late. Initial 2 Kms. of walk is on streets of Yuksum which will take us to start point of the trek. Couple of shops, KNP Check-post, Some village houses and Football ground can be seen around Yuksum.
Initial walk took us through dense forest inside KNP. Clear trail was already there because this trek is Legendary one and thousands of people trek every year. Packed lunch was not served to us since trek staff decided to serve lunch at Sachen camp-site itself once we reach. There are 3 Bridges we need to cross en-route Sachen camp-site and walking on these Bridges is one of the unique experiences during the trek! We met many Americans, Germans, Australians & of course Indians who were returning from Goecha La experience and every one returning with different experience with them. Had N number of breaks during 1st day journey at Kanchendzongha National Park and clicked memories in our camera. Reached Sachen camp-site around 3:30 PM after crossing 3 Bridges.
Group photo at 3rd Bridge
Once reached Sachen camp-site, trek staff pitched tent for us.
Had lunch around 4:00 PM at Kitchen Hut in Sachen.
Spent evening time at Sachen camp-site by chitchatting with fellow trek mates. Had dinner around 7:30 PM and told Bye Bye for the day with challenging day at store on 2nd day.
River & Bridges en-route Sachen camp-site:
There are 3 Famous Bridges which is constructed to 3 different rivers one can witness while trekking to Sachen camp-site. Please find details below:
1st Bridge – Pha Khola River
2nd Bridge – Chu Che River
3rd Bridge – Minthu Gang River
Sachen camp-site is pretty average camp-site in-terms of Himalayan standards because it is situated inside dense forest en-route Tsokha. It is 1st camp-site of Dzongri & Goecha La Trek and Kitchen Hut available for cooking & camping. Camp-site is surrounded by huge trees all over and Dzo (It is hybrid between the Yak and domestic cattle).
Temperature: Around 5 to 10 degree Celsius at night since camp-site situated at lower altitude.
